This program has successfully matched many hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students from the Faculty of Business and Economics with business professionals in a mentoring partnership. Participating students are linked with mentors based on their shared interests, course of study, and area of specialty.

The program aims to assist you with your transition out of university into the workforce and to involve members of industry in a mutually beneficial partnership. 

A career mentor is able to provide you with information on industries, professions, and general work skills as well as advice and support with career direction, networking, skills assessment, job hunting/applications. Partners of accounting firms, directors of management consultancies, bankers, senior public servants and many other professionals have been offering valuable insights into the world of commerce to the Faculty’s students.

How to Apply for the Program

Applications for 2012 Career Mentoring Program are closed now.

Step 1: Attend ONE information session on the program to ensure you understand the roles and responsibilities involved with being a mentee.

  • For Graduate students, book your information session under Upcoming Events at BECC Online Workgroup (login required).
  • For Undergraduate students, book your information session under Upcoming Events at BECC Online Workgroup - UG (login required).

Step 2: Submit your online application including your CV by 18 March. Students are selected for the program through assessment of interest area/discipline match, reasons for applying, academic performance, written communication skills.

Step 3: Students will be notified by email on 4 April about the matching result.

How the Career Mentoring Program Works

The program runs on a yearly cycle from January until November with the approximate timeframes as follows:

  • 9 January - 18 March - Online applications open
  • 31 January - 8 March - Mentoring information sessions offered (compulsory attendance if you wish to apply)
  • 4 April - Students will be notified
  • 19 April - Mentoring Launch Function - successful students meet their mentors and mentoring partnerships commence
  • 25 July - Mentoring Mid-Year Networking Event
  • 1 November - Mentoring Closing function and end of formal mentoring partnerships

Resources

  • The BECC has created a Mentoring Workgroup and invites participants to join this online community. The forum will be used to disseminate program updates and news during the Mentoring cycle.
  • Use Logbook to assit your meetings with mentor by login via Careers Online.

Please note, there is no mid-year intake for either mentees or mentors.
