Motivating and managing performance

29-30 May, 2012

Managing employee performance is fundamental to organisational effectiveness. However in Australian organisations and businesses, evidence indicates we often fail to do this successfully. More often than not it is because we do not have diagnostic frameworks or the interpersonal skills needed for performance conversations. In this intensive two-day practice-based workshop we will develop your skills and analytic capabilities for motivating and managing employee performance. Managing job performance issues can be challenging and developmental. This workshop will provide you with a tool kit for motivation management and provide you with "live" performance feedback to foster your leadership capabilities.

By the end of the program you will be able to:

  • Diagnose performance problems.
  • Establish expectations and set goals.
  • Facilitate performance.
  • Link performance to rewards and discipline.
  • Use intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.
  • Distribute rewards equitably.
  • Provide timely and straightforward performance feedback.

Program Overview

The first full-day workshop covers evidence-based frameworks for leading and managing employees. You will be able to apply analytical approaches to managing employees with performance issues using an interactive simulation exercise. You will learn how to develop diagnostic and analytic skills for managing performance drawing on frameworks such as justice, goal setting and expectations.

The second day you will practice giving performance feedback, by focusing on how to communicate effectively. You will be video taped so as to be able to develop your behavioural and interpersonal repertoire for facilitating great performances in your employees. This is achieved through conversations that are problem-oriented, congruent, conjunctive and responsive.

Who should attend?

This workshop is targeted at senior managers who want to achieve new levels of leadership in their careers and within their organisations.
