The Master of Human Resource Management (HRM) is designed to provide high-level knowledge of the main approaches to managing people at work. Students will learn about the range of factors that influence HRM practices, and study HRM as part of the management and strategy of the whole organisation.

The Master of HRM presents opportunities for students to develop skills and analytical abilities in preparation for leadership roles in competitive organisations. Graduates of the program will be able analyse human resource policies and develop and implement HRM systems that integrate with any organisation’s strategic aims.

The program will normally be completed in 18 months of full-time study or three years part-time.

Who should apply?

The Master of HRM is a specialist program primarily designed for existing HR professionals and managers. However, it is also suited to to line managers who are increasingly expected to deal with HR issues and need to develop a sound knowledge of current HR practices. It is also open to applicants with substantial work experience in other professional fields, who are interested in a highly focused HRM qualification and are prepared to meet the demands of advanced study.

Professional recognition

The Master of HRM is an Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Accredited Program. Graduates are automatically eligible for AHRI Member status (MAHRI). Master of HRM graduates with two years of AHRI membership and five years of professional HR experience are eligible for Certified Professional status (CAHRI).

The AHRI has set a range of goals for the overall development of HRM as a driver of organisational success and for the career development of individual practitioners. These goals are established on the basis of ongoing research into the state of the HR profession and the competencies required for HR to fulfil its role now and into the future. AHRI accredits only those programs that align with these goals.

Exit points

Students enrolled in the Master of Human Resource Management who are either unable or who choose not to continue with their studies may be eligible to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma or a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management. Minimum entry requirements:

To be considered for admission to the Master of Human Resource Management, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • At least two years of documented, relevant (full-time) work experience
  • Results of the the GMAT/GRE, unless the applicant has met one of the approved conditions for a GMAT/GRE exemption
  • A personal statement.
